About the Organisation

The MSSC (Marine Society and Sea Cadets) was formed in 2004 as the parent charity for the Sea Cadets and Marine Society. Both charities have a long history of helping young people achieve more and make a life for themselves, often in very difficult times. Each year, MSSC organises Volunteer Conferences at regional locations throughout the UK.

The Challenge

Due to COVID restrictions, MSSC could not hold their traditional in-person regional conferences. They turned to their trusted partner Stream7 to host the events online. The conference was divided into nine sessions, scheduled across Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with a dedicated day allocated for each region.

The event required a comprehensive online platform that could facilitate registration, live video streaming, interactive features, and breakout sessions -- all while maintaining the polished, professional feel that the MSSC community expected.

The Solution

TV-quality broadcast integration

Stream7 successfully integrated their TV-quality broadcast production into Canapii, resulting in a highly polished and fully branded platform. Stream7's remote caller technology enabled presenters to contribute from any location, while producers used talk-back technology for smooth communication with live hosts.

77+ sessions with breakouts

Working with Stream7, Canapii hosted more than 77 sessions including both "main stage" plenary presentations and breakout rooms where MSSC staff discussed various topics. Breakout session hosts received training from Stream7, enabling them to conduct self-managed presentations with screen sharing and interactive elements.

Live technical support

Throughout the event, Stream7 provided live technical support to both attendees and presenters, ensuring a seamless experience across all nine regional sessions.

Results

The series of events drew over 800 attendees, with positive feedback from both presenters and participants. The combination of Stream7's broadcast expertise and Canapii's event platform delivered a professional experience that maintained the quality and engagement of the traditional in-person conferences. After the event, all content was made available for on-demand viewing, extending the conference's reach even further.
