How JLP Productions Used Canapii to Host the LSE STRiDE Project

A global hybrid conference on dementia research for the London School of Economics, with attendees from 30+ countries and live multilingual support.

About the Event

JLP Productions partnered with Canapii to host the STRiDE Project for their client, The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). STRiDE was a 54-month study examining dementia practice in seven developing countries, both at a national level and for individual families. The project was a partnership between researchers and NGOs across Brazil, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Mexico, South Africa, and the UK.

The culminating conference brought together research findings and marked the launch of the STRiDE network, which aims to build on the project's legacy and extend collaboration to support research capacity globally.

The Challenge

With hundreds of attendees tuning in from over 30 countries, the event needed to be inclusive and globally accessible. JLP Productions required mainstage sessions streamed via RTMP link, language-specific breakout rooms, and an intuitive interface that could support a wide range of technical experience and accessibility needs. The platform also needed to support both on-site and virtual audiences for a true hybrid experience.

The Solution

RTMP streaming with live transcription

Canapii's RTMP capabilities ensured a smooth, packaged broadcast for the virtual audience. Live transcription was leveraged with translation into five different languages, making the content accessible to attendees worldwide.

Language-specific breakout rooms

Canapii's integrated web solution for breakout rooms allowed the organisers to create rooms based on specific languages. These breakout rooms were featured on the main event page, making them easy for attendees to find and join.

Interactive Q&A and resource centre

Both on-site and virtual attendees had Q&A functionality on all live stream sessions, encouraging real-time engagement with speakers. The organisers also used Canapii's Resource Centre as a hub for easily accessible event content and presentation slides.

Results

This one-day hybrid conference was hugely successful. The tech support tabs present in each session were critical for quickly triaging any unforeseen technical issues during live broadcasts. The combination of RTMP streaming, multilingual breakouts, and an accessible resource centre made the event a valuable experience for all participants -- both those attending in person and the global virtual audience.
